Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has consistently stated that the dignity of women is central to the strength and stability of society. Concerned by the changing social environment and the increasing challenges faced by women, RSS has emphasised the need to protect respect, safety, and honour of women in every sphere of life.

According to this view, Bharatiya values see man and woman as complementary to each other. Through mutual understanding and cooperation, both contribute to building a harmonious family and a balanced society. This relationship is not one of inequality but of shared responsibility.
Cultural and Historical Perspective
RSS highlights that Indian history and literature contain numerous examples of the dignity and greatness of women. Ancient texts, including the Rigveda, mention women as seers and contributors to knowledge. These references are cited to underline that respect for women has been an integral part of Indian tradition.
While acknowledging natural differences between men and women, RSS maintains that Bharatiya tradition has never approved discrimination against women. Participation of women in decision making and social life is considered essential for national development.
Contemporary Challenges Faced by Women
RSS has expressed concern over the impact of excessive materialism, consumerism, and distorted notions of modernity on social values. According to this perspective, such influences have contributed to the erosion of respect for women and the weakening of family systems.
Issues such as indecent portrayal of women in media, increasing incidents of harassment, exploitation, domestic violence, and crimes against women are identified as serious social problems. Female foeticide, dowry related violence, and abuse in workplaces and public spaces are seen as matters requiring urgent attention.
Role of Society and the State
RSS believes that legal measures alone are not sufficient to address these challenges. While effective implementation of laws for women’s safety and empowerment is necessary, a deeper transformation in social mindset is considered equally important.
Families, educational institutions, media, and social leaders are seen as having a crucial role in restoring respect for women. RSS holds that society is built around the family, and woman is the central pillar of the family structure. Without an awakened and empowered woman, a developed society cannot be imagined.
Emphasis on Social Responsibility
RSS calls for collective responsibility to ensure that women are treated with dignity and respect in all aspects of life. This responsibility extends beyond government action to everyday social behaviour and cultural practice.
By stressing respect, honour, and empowerment rather than mere symbolism, RSS places women’s dignity at the core of social and national well being.
